My name is Kelly and I have a serious passion for making spaces feel like home.
I’m originally from a small cornfield outside of Chicago. As a kid, you could find me playing the SIMS, designing the most perfect houses for the most perfect families. I spent a serious amount of time making my room look “cool.” Either those things, or making forts in the woods. That pretty much sums up me as a person. Technological, creative, and hands-on.
Later on, like most people in their twenties, I moved a lot. Like, a lot. To all different states and cities and I loved every bit of it. Through a series of events, I ended up in Colorado in 2016. I can’t imagine a better place to live throughout my 20’s! I’m a dog momma of 2 fur babies that make my heart full and my house messy.
The thing about moving often is that you tend to only keep a collection of home items that may be guaranteed to fit in your car, or are easiest to move from apartment A to apartment B. After 10 years of experience in rentals, I am here to share how I design my rental spaces on a budget that feels comfortable.
I’ll take you along on the DIYs I’ve done 100 times, and the ones I have been too big of a wimp to try until I do it in front of you. I’ll show you how to refinish wood furniture or chalk paint that old piece that needs a makeover. I love to work in my workshop with wood and leather. In the winter, I’m usually binging Netflix and simultaneously crocheting cutie things for my friends and family. I can’t not multitask, BIG Capricorn energy. If I can’t make it myself, I’m researching everywhere to find the best deal. I got our backs.
With rental design, you’re often working with small spaces and constantly changing spaces. Sometimes it can be hard to know where to invest your hard-earned cash money. The goal is to have a space that feels like home without splurging with every new lease. My job is to give you the tools to take on any rental space and make it feel like your own. Let’s create moments in our space that recharge, refresh, and comfort us. We deserve it.
This website and blog is designed to take you with me while I embark on new projects, to inspire others to give it a whirl, and to share the growth of Kel at Home with my community, neighbors, and friends. My hope is that you can come here with wine in hand, to get inspired, get real, and remember what matters. Welcome! I am so happy to be here.
