One Room Challenge Week #2

One Room Challenge Week #2

One Room Challenge Week 2 Post - Primary bedroom

Hello again 😁

Over the last week, I’ve started on phase one of my bedroom design plans for the Spring One Room Challenge, where I am refreshing my apartment’s primary bedroom as a Guest Participant! You can check out the other rooms in the challenge here.

If you’ve been following along on stories, you already know that I’ve made two purchases so far to get the ball rolling. The first purchase was the new rug for the desk area. I found this 4×6 rug from target on sale for $32! I had to snag it immediately.

I’m not going to lie, when it first came in the mail I thought about returning it. I felt like they gave me the last crusty rug at the bottom of the warehouse. Like maybe 200lb men were standing on it. Maybe that’s why it was on sale?? It was really tightly wound and the rolls were very stiff. The tassels were sticking out everywhere and I assumed it would never lay flat. I was trying not to be disappointed. It was still soft, at least.

Luckily for everyone involved, the DIY project I started this week is the dresser makeover. I took the drawers out and hauled the main frame portion of the dresser to the garage for a paint job. Meanwhile, all of the drawers smooshed down my new rug nice and flat! Tada!

The second purchase I made was the hardware for the dresser drawers. I chose the black modern pulls that are hung from the top of the drawer. However, right now the dresser drawers are on pause until the wood detailing comes into my Home Depot store. I ordered it today, so I’m hoping I’ll have it before next week’s ORC update. You can follow along on my stories if you want to see some behind the scenes of the dresser makeover 🙂

So far, the dresser frame has two coats of this Toasted Poppyseed Chalk Paint that I had on hand from a clearance at Walmart. $7 for the quart was unpassupable. Since looking for the link online, the color toasted Poppyseed doesn’t come up, so maybe they are retiring the color, hence the sale. Anyways.

My plan for this coming week is to get the dresser finished up by getting the drawer faces glued down, caulked, painted, and the new hardware installed.

I bought this hardware from amazon. I also came across a blog by Kim Bui on Pinterest of her doing essentially the same makeover, here is a link to her tutorial!

I actually ended up ordering the fluted wood from Home Depot that she recommended.  #influenced

If the whole process goes according to plan, then I’m hoping to do the same thing to Brandon’s nightstand. I plan to do everything the same, plus add new legs. Fingers crossed!

The dresser paint job is looking nice so far, but you can tell there is some smudging and blotchiness in the paint, so my next step before painting again is to lightly sand and smooth some of those rough spots out to get the smoothest finish possible.
