August Furniture Flip Before and Afters
For the end of August, I figured I’d pull together a before and after of each furniture flip this month. My before pictures are more like “as close to the beginning as I can find on my camera roll” pictures, but you get the idea.
A lot of times following along on any one piece can get confusing, considering I usually am working on more than one piece at a time. Here’s the short story of each one to wrap up the month. For more in-depth furniture flip tutorials, check out the post at the end of this article to get started.
August Furniture Flips Before and After
- Hardware off & cleaned
- Scrub, then scrub with mineral spirits.
- Sanded and re-sealed the drawers in polycrylic.
- Painted the desk with Waverly chalk paint, in the color “elephant” 3 coats. To learn how to paint wood furniture, check out this article on how to paint furniture step by step.
- Polycrylic desk, 2 coats, 3 on the desktop.
- Hardware on, drawers in, DONE!
- Hardware off & cleaned, keyholes taped.
- Scrub, then scrub with mineral spirits.
- Lightly sanded
- Painted desk and drawer separately with the worst paint to work with that I’ve ever used. 4 coats?!?!?! !!!!
- Polycrylic the desk and drawer. 2 coats, 3 on the desktop.
- Hardware on, drawer in, DONE!
- Doors and hardware off.
- Cleaned hardware
- Sanded entire desk and drawers. Varnish was peeling over the whole thing.
- Stripped varnish on the wood trim using stripper.
- Taped off wood trim and caning on cabinet.
- Painted the cabinet with Waverly Chalk Paint in color “white.” 4 coats since I initially painted this green.
- Removed tape, and then taped the cabinet to stain the trim.
- Stained trim and trim on doors in “ebony” stain.
- Polycrylic everything, 2 coats.
- Doors and hardware on, DONE.
- Drawers out, and hardware off.
- Used wood filler to fill some deep scratches and chips in the wood.
- Sanded the wood filler smooth.
- Scrubbed, vacuumed and cleaned with mineral spirits.
- Painted the drawers and shells in Waverly Chalk Paint in color “ink.” 3 coats.
- Polycrylic everything, 2 coats, 3 coats on the top.
- Drawers in, new hardware on, DONE!
