Living Room Updates
Our new apartment living room progress! I wanted to go ahead and document how far this room has come, even though there is still a ways to go! When we moved into this apartment, it was a unique situation for us both because we knew that all of our furniture wouldn’t fill it. Hard to believe now, HA. In typical man fashion, Brandon had zero common area items. I had the perfect amount for the 430 sq ft apartment that I previously lived in. One of my biggest challenges was scaling bigger. Needless to say, we have a lot of areas to fill, and it’s been a fun process to learn each other’s styles, for the most part.
Our Apartment Living Room Design Must-Haves:
- Make it the coziest room possible for snow day bum days. Seriously. Thats #1.
- Have enough space for the big couch, and a couple of dog beds. The dogs stalk us, so we have to make room.
- Brandons request was a “modern, luxurious style” but I’m pretty positive he just didn’t want it to be girly.
- Keep it as affordable as possible.
So, PHASE 1, here is where we started. One thing we loved about this apartment is the number of huge windows in the living room, recessed outlets, and there’s a ceiling fan.
PHASE 2! This was a great phase too, haha. This is using what we had already. We had ordered a TV stand and needed to pick up the rest of the couch from a friend who stored it for us. At this point, we were just trying to figure out the floorplan and how to set the couch, since each piece of the sectional moves independently. With the half wall by the stairs, we didn’t have much choice of which wall the TV would go on. I also got a rug! This rug is 9′ x 12′.
PHASE 3! Next phase, put stuff kind of where we want it! The TV stand came in, and we got the full couch! We also mounted the TV since the new TV stand was shorter than my old one. All the decorations in these photos I already had from my old apartment, I made myself or came from my personal stash I was using for staging. I get first dibs! The pillows I already had too, but I bought new covers on amazon for cheap! I matched them to the TV stand to tie in the browns and blacks in the room.
PHASE 4! Here is where we are now! We bought a wire cover thing for the TV cords, I added a few FB marketplace side tables (obsessed with these), and a couple more pillows!
It still doesn’t feel “done” even though I’m sure I could live with it like this a while longer. I’d love to get some plants! And I definitely need some art for that empty wall above the couch. So far we’ve successfully made a comfy “modern” living room, and we 100% spend the majority of our time here.
