This week’s newsletter is full of projects.

The past few days have been filled with studio time.  Since fall is officially here, I want to start clearing out the inventory that I’ve been working on.  I’ve been simultaneously flipping this batch of furniture, redoing my workshop for the winter months, and gathering decor FROM the studio TO the dining room where I’m building new shelves! Lots of changes coming.  But first priority is the project furniture.

Furniture Projects This Week

I’m prioritizing getting all of the furniture finished and sold and out of the garage for the winter.  I can’t keep the door open to sand with ventilation, so I’m excited to focus on other projects and mediums during the winter months.

The first project I tackled this week was a charging station in our living room.  We used the 4 drawer dresser I DIY’d for a while but eventually sold it.  We have been missing the surface space to charge laptops, iPads, and cell phones while we’re in the living room.  I happened to have an old typewriter table that I had no real plans for yet.  The stars aligned.  I went ahead and painted the old tops black and styled it up! A quick and satisfying project.

Apartment Style Updates

Kel at home newsletter

My apartment is at a standstill until I finish building the floating shelves I want to make for the dining room. Tons of tray styling and fake plants will totally refresh the kitchen and dining room.  I’m hoping for a comfy and clean space to host game nights, and keep things tidy since we use our kitchen table every day for meals.  I’ve always sat at the counter to eat until I moved in with Brandon and he instinctively has family meal time in his blood, we all sit together ALWAYS.  I love it.

Books I'm Reading

Last week I told you that I had finally started a new book called The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.  At this point, I’m not totally sucked in… but I’ve heard so many good reviews, I’m not counting it out yet.  I’m one long hot bath away from really diving in.  I’m not loving how it starts, a little redundant and over-simplified with the dialog but I’m hoping it’s just an awkward start.

Recipe Of the Week

Recipe of the week this week HAS to be Cheesy Sausage Thing! Because I’ve made it about a million times now that it’s getting consistently cold outside and it’s just so freaking good.  Plus… who doesn’t love a good one-pot recipe?  And if you’re reading this, get on my Instagram and send me a message about what the heck to call this meal.  One-pot cheesy sausage meal?  What a mouthful. Literally.

Movies This Week

WE HAVE FINALLY REACHED SCARY MOVIE TERRITORY!

I could not be more excited.  We busted into the scary movie scene with Scary Movie Sunday.  The honorable mentions were Aftermath and Intrusion, both on Netflix.

In Aftermath, a woman and her husband move into a new house that the husband got a great deal on when he happened upon it working his “crime clean up job”.  Shortly after moving in, the wife starts seeing weird things happen in the house.  LOVE a good suspense movie and this one had my entire household hooked the whole time.  Now that’s a good movie.

The second movie was Intrusion.  In this one, a couple moves into a new home designed from the ground up by the architect husband.  When a local girl goes missing, the wife decides to investigate and finds a creepy surprise.  You won’t know who to trust the whole time. Amazing.

Music I'm Loving

I’m finally getting off of my punk revival wave. I still love it but unless Travis is on it, it sucks.  And when Travis is on it, it’s all got the same vibe.  And MGK is there which is getting tired.

I’m leaning into the fall, coffeeshop, maybe I’m crying maybe I’m vibing to the joy of life-type songs.  With Adele’s new release “Easy On Me” I’m SO antsy for her new album, 30.  Hozier, and James Blake have been hogging my Spotify. I’m not mad at it.

Three 3 Grateful Things

This week I’m grateful that I can’t get fired because I’ve needed a few mental health days. Just kidding. But really.

  1. Working on this blog is so fulfilling. Working from home with my family around is amazing.  So, so grateful.
  2. Plants that arent dying yet!  I moved all of my plants inside a few weeks back and so far everything is surviving.  Who am I?! Green thumb!? Who has two thumbs and has a green thumb? Me.  It’s me.
  3. Chili.  Need I say more?
